[Advertorial] Our Weather Causes Baldness! Hair Specialist TK Trichokare Explains..

Advertorial

Recently, at a friend's gathering I found out that one of the ladies was from TK Trichokare (the people that have Diana Ser in their ads), so I asked her all sorts of questions regarding hair problems.

The first thing she told me that this is the most common hair care problem in Singapore – she also told me the chim sounding words – Sebhorrhea Oleosa.

Basically this means that the hot and humid weather here causes our scalps to exude a greasy, sweaty gross mix of oils from our skins. Besides being itchy and causing our hair to be limp and lifeless, if the greasiness is left untreated, it can clog our hair follicles and eventually lead to excessive hair fall – which is baldness!

I also found out that girls are suffering from hairfall much younger in life – for our mothers’ generation it was late 50s and beyond – for us, it is in our late 20s.

What should be done about it then?
Well according to the helpful Tracy, the first thing to do is drop by a trichological centre (a place that specialises in treating hair loss) for a consultation. Many people mistake the cause of their hair problems and use an incorrect treatment. At TK Trichokare, they use special scanners to find out exactly what is wrong – and then customise a treatment for you.

The next thing that Tracy recommended was to go soon – another big mistake that people make is that they leave it too late to start treatment. Hair loss IS treatable, and CAN be prevented – but don’t wait until the last minute. It is always easier to stop the hairloss, than to grow it back.

One thing that Tracy was quite insistent about was the smell. She shared that her customers have been to “the other” hair loss places, and they complain about the strong smell. For Trichokare,  they use all natural European herbs like Leopard’s Bane, Chicory and Burdock so the smell is really pleasant and relaxing.

If you want to go somewhere that will give you long and lustrous hair with that that sexy fullness and sheen that the magazine editors love so much – can check out the European hair spa experience offered at TK Trichokare – complete with natural botanical remedies and customised, personalised service.

Making My Own Icy Cold Beauty Popsicles

A couple of days back, I was shopping at Daiso and saw a cute pastel-coloured ice pop maker, bought it (an unintentional purchase though!) came home and played with it ....and  WoOLala... here I have it, my first Icy Cold Beauty Popsicle! - from fresh Orange Juice which is loaded with vitamins. Orange juice is known to contain a high percentage of Vitamin C, which is helpful in boosting the immune system. It also contains Folate, which plays a major role in the reproduction of new skin and blood cells, and can aid in the healing process.

This pure orange popsicle is healthy, low in calories, without added sugar or preservatives as compared to the mass produced ice cream sold at supermarkets.

Interested to make your own Beauty Popsicles too? Very simple to make and these are 2 things you will need...

1) $2 Ice Pop Maker (Reusable) from Daiso (You can also use plastic cups and ice cream sticks)

2) Your Preferred Choice Of Juice(s).. Besides Orange juice, you can use any juices you like or can think of - like cranberry juice, carrot juice, celery juice, mixed fruit juice, watermelon juice, strawberry juice, kiwi juice, apple juice, papaya milk, banana milk, tomato juice, lemon with honey...basically there are endless of choices for everyone. and besides juices, you can even add in small cubes of the fruit itself into the making...

Yes very easy to make without much stuffs needed...
Just 2 tips to share:

  • Try to fill the juice to the brim of each popsicle's compartment so that the frozen ice will sit nicely at the base of the plastic stick when you pull it out.

  • It may be a bit difficult to pull out the frozen ice from the compartment, try to move the stick in left-right movements to loosen the frozen ice before pulling it out. If its still difficult to pull the whole popsicle out from the compartment, pour water to the back of the maker (as shown in the above instructions guide) and try to pull the stick out again.. You should be able to get a nice popsicle shaped like an ice cream as shown in the picture.
Have fun making your own icy cold Beauty Popsicles for yourselves and your loved ones.. Ya, I think the kids will love them too..

I am thinking of making red bean and bandung popsicles next..

So what flavours of popsicles are you thinking of making?

A Colorful Day that Bring Back Childhood Memories

17 March 2011

I went to watch Disney on Ice at Indoor Stadium this afternoon (with Jasmine and her son, Jocelyn and her family). Think the Disney on Ice crew will be here for 4 days and today is the first day of the show. Since it is school holidays, I saw many parents brought their children to watch the show.

Took some pictures for memories... ( The characters skated too fast, so it was hard to snap the characters with their faces facing me..plus I still don't know how to use my camera, mostly I used auto, and tried snapping a few using low-light mode)

Mickey and Minnie bidding Goodbye to us!

After the show, I went over Marina Square to walk walk before going for a bloggers' beauty event.. and Guess what I happened to see at Marina Square Atrium.. A colorful paradise of giantic balloons exhibit... and took out my camera to snap away again as it was my first time seeing so many pretty and cute balloons in person... LOL..

Colorful right? They are made from our local balloon sculptors.. I think it's definitely a great place/background if you like to camwhore... or if you have kids, I am sure they will love them too...

Of course, I took down the details of this exhibition just in case anyone of you is interested...

It is free entry to this colorful giant balloons paradise.. and I just realise from this picture that one lucky winner will get to take home his/her favourite masterpiece.. too bad I did not see this, or else I would have voted.. but all very pretty, also hard to choose... but I think I would choose the following design:

(This was really eye-catching piece of artwork and it's like the biggest one there!)

There are also friendly staff around to help visitors to snap pictures.. so nice right?

and by evening time, I was high up at Level 69 @Equinox to learn about the newly launched LMS Spotlights..

It is pretty co-incidence that this product is associated with color;  LMS Spotlights is a unique and simple-to-use beauty range that uses red light therapy... Just used this product earlier and will be using it diligently for the next 2 weeks since I am suffering from very bad breakouts since the last few days, stay tuned for my review on the whole range of LMS SPOTLIGHTS

What a fruitful and colorful day that bring back childhood memories..think seeing colorful and pretty things can make one feel happier and younger.

My First Prawning Experience

11th July (Sunday) - Went to Bishan Hai Bin U Enterprise to have a short prawning session..( This is the place where my brother brought my mother and me eat the pomfret steamboat.)  We paid an hour for $15 and was given a rod, a small amount of meat (bait) and a pack of wet towel and off we go to catch prawns..

It took us 15 minutes to catch our very first prawn.... then I tried and I almost managed to catch one but when I pull up the rod, the prawn managed to release itself off the bait... (Haiz) .. Think I got no skills.. because in the end, I did not manage to catch any prawn.. . ( its pretty difficult to catch as we don't know how to.. I guess there must be trick, or else my brother and his friends wont be bringing back big bag of prawns when they went prawning every time.)

After we returned our rod, we just thought might as well BBQ the prawns to eat since there was a couple of BBQ pits there.. Stress though.. the 3 prawns were still alive and kicking in the net.. its hard to catch them.. Luckily an Uncle came to our rescue.. He taught us how to use the satay sticks to 'poke' through those live prawns... and even gave us 3 additional prawns.. so we got 6 in total...

So the rewards for an hour of prawning.. the satisfaction of being able to catch the prawns and seeing these nicely BBQ nice orangey fresh prawns.... ( but they don't taste nice though.. those prawns that we buy from markets/supermarkets taste so much better...)

It was a fun experience overall, although we did not have a big haul... I think prawning is just to past time thing to do .. but its quite a good idea if a few friends gather together and chit chat, drink, eat and prawn at the same time.

Ok, next time if I go prawning again, I must try to catch a prawn by myself.

Anyway I saw this article on prawning just last week on Straits Times.. and I thought they might be quite useful information.. so took some photos of the article.

Hot Spots for prawning mentioned in The Straits Times.

And How to Catch A Prawn?? ( I think a bit of patience also required)

Actually what is the average number of prawns one can catch in an hour?

Skyline View On Singapore Flyer

Earlier this evening, I went to take the Singapore Flyer ride, with my Aunt, brother and his gf.. Our first time taking the flyer although it was launched in 2008... I always see this ultra mega wheel with many protuding capsules whenever I am on ECP.. and finally today I was in one of the capsules! ('',)

Our tickets.. come in different designs... We got to keep these tickets as souveirs.

First, we got to go through by the Flight Entrance. The first thing we did was to scan our bags through the scanners (something like passing through our customs)...then we scanned the tickets to gain entry to the flyer... ( got to walk through a passage way before we reach the platform)

Although there were quite a number of passengers (more than 40+) in the Queue, it was pretty fast. We got into one of the empty capsules within 5 minutes.. Ready to go *v*...( The capsule was still moving when everyone walked in...but it was more than enough time for the 10+ of us to make our way in)

Excited... haha, it was already 7.30pm when I stepped in.. ya, the sky had already started to turn dark.. so what can I see?

Marina Bay Integrated Resort...

Marina Bay Golf Course

Fullerton Hotel, Clifford Pier, tall office building in Shenton Way..

When the sky turned darker.... a different scene of the IR..can only see the lights..

Suntec City..

Almost reaching the peak of Singapore Flyer...

Looking down.. pretty scary but luckily the capsule was moving really very very slowly that we cannot feel its moving... If its a transparent bottom capsule, I think it will be really scary when you see the surroundings at a certain height... When I was looking down, I suddenly asked myself if I have the courage to try parachuting..Most probably not, even at 165metres, I am already scared.. imagine jumping off a plane in the middle of the sky... I think I will faint!!! LOL

After a 30 minute ride, we are coming back to ground....

A fun and interesting experience for me to see the sceneries of Singapore... but most of the buildings, landmarks were abit dark... so can only figure out through the shape and lightings... Its pretty scary when I looked down from the top, but the super slow speed makes me feel as if I am looking out of the window from a building, we really do not feel that it was moving at all.. except that the sceneries will change as the wheel revolved. All the staff were very friendly too... If I were to take the ride again, I will choose to ride in the day time.. at least can see all the sceneries clearly and a different experience.

My Canon camera really antique and cannot make it.. all the pictures I took on the flyer were so dark.. when I used auto mode, I can see the person, but not the background.. when I switch off the flash light, can see the sceneries, but cannot see the person. :( [Stupid Camera! Going to find a better camera soon]

Then we went over to Marina Square Imperial Treasure to indulge in yummy la mian and super nice xiao long bao... !

I have been to Imperial Treasure a couple of times. It serves pretty nice on-the-spot hand made la mian.. If you prefer something light, can try the pork and vegetable la mian (2nd picture in the top row), but today I realised its Zha Jiang La Mian (1st picture in the bottom row) is quite delicious ( Score: 8 out of 10) with a mixture of minced meat and mushroom in a salted bean gravy.. The fried rice can skip, not worth for the price of $10.50, its just an average plate of yang chow fried rice, nothing special.

We ordered 4 baskets of the Xiao Long Baos.. These are the best xiao long baos I have eaten in Singapore to date. ( When I want to eat Xiao Long Baos, Imperial Treasure will be the only place that appears on my mind) Even my brother loves them too. (Don't use Din Tai Fung's Xiao Long Baos to compare, cause they cannot make it...personally I dont find Din Tai Fung's nice ..infact I find them over-rated)

Anyway, these xiao long baos just so juicy and nice.. simply dip the xiao long bao with vinegar and pop it in your mouth, and with one bite all the soup will burst out filling your mouth with the sweet and meaty flavours.. Or bite a hole at the top, savour the soup, and eat up the rest. ( Score: 9 out of 10) It's definitely a happy food for me!

The golden pastry is nothing special, imagine eating flattened 'fried butterfly' stuffed with spring onions.. its how it taste like..

One funny thing, when we were ordering, the waitress was afraid that we could not finish our food as she said its abit too much for the 4 of us.. Of course, we managed to polish off everything! ('',)

I had an enjoyable Friday evening! ('',)
