Review: My Pretty 10-piece Suesh Brush Set

I had a tough choice to choose from the wide range of gorgeous brush sets from Suesh website.

And these 2 sets immediately caught my eyes...

On the left:

10-Piece Personal Essential Brush Set ($90)

- It’s the brush set every girl should own. A personal collection perfect for novices wearing everyday makeup.
- Includes Powder brush, blush brush, foundation brush, Large eyeshadow brush, Medium eyeshadow brush, Wide smudge brush, thin eyeliner brush, brow brush, mascara brush and lip brush

16-Piece Personal Professional Brush Set ($105)

- Be your own professional makeup artist with this complete personal set. Perfect for those whose fondness for beauty and makeup becomes a passion.
- Includes: Powder brush, Round Blush brush, Angled Blush brush, Base shadow brush, Eyeshadow brush (L, M, S),  Contouring brush, Bullet brush, Flat Eyeliner brush, Narrow Eyeliner brush, Brow brush, Tool brush, Mascara brush, Brow Comb, Lip brush

Oh Gosh, both sets really look nice, I was attracted to the 10 piece brush set because of the red berry colored brush handles and the pure white bristles of the powder and blush brushes which look like they are really soft! On the other hand, the 16 piece brush set looks really professional and cool to own one.. Price difference wise is not much; $90 for the 10 piece set whereas for $15 more, one will get a 16-piece professional looking brush set.

I asked opinions from Suesh Singapore, and the friendly and helpful Che, told me that me the quality in all their brushes are the same, and added that the 16-pc set has more brushes and is great for those starting to be more professional about their makeup.

Somehow my heart asked me to get the 10 piece brush set but my mind asked me to go for the professional looking 16-piece brush set, since there are more brushes.. BUT in the end, I followed by heart and got the 10 piece brush kit.. ( cause I really was intrigued by the white soft bristles of the powder and blush brushes in the set, plus the cost per brush ($9/pc) seem more expensive than that of the 16 piece set ($6.60/pc) which I reckon may mean better quality! ( Just my weird assumption!)

So there you goes.. Presenting my Pretty 10-piece Suesh Brush Set...

I like the way the string is twisted at the end..

The 10 brand new makeup brushes in the brush case..

Each brush comes with a plastic wrapper, and plastic brush sleeves included for the face brushes (the right 3 brushes)

Removing the plastics wrappers and sleeves... Here are the 10 brushes and the brush case... ( One word: Nice!)

And as usual, the very first thing when I see these brushes was to: Feel the bristles on the back of my hand.. The first brush that I put to test was the biggest brush, the powder brush.. and the bristles were REALLY SOFT! The rest of the brushes that were made of natural bristles ( aka animal hairs) were equally soft! They were so soft that I can't help but to sweep the bristles again and again on the back of my hand, to feel the softness.

The next thing I did was to smell the bristles..I still remember that the white bristles on one of my Sigma brushes (the F40 Large Angled Contour Brush) smelt pretty bad so the first brush that I was curious to smell was the one with the white bristes and  I picked up the Suesh powder brush to have a sniff.. and to my delight, there was no unpleasant smell at all.. same go to the rest of the brushes.. ( Soft bristles + No bad scent bristles + well made brush handles = Happy Me!)

Next I sent these 10 brushes for a bath... using a mild baby shampoo ( Johnson's Baby Head to Toe Wash) and was amazed that there was not a sight of bleeding nor shedding.. From the 1st brush to the 10th brush that I washed, not even a strand of bristles came off! Something that I did not expect from these brushes which cost less than $10 per piece.

A closer look at each of these 10 brushes... and my thoughts about them..

This Powder Brush is made of natural bristles which are very soft. I like that its also fluffy. It picks up the right amount of loose powder and gives a natural finish when I use it to apply my loose powder on top of my liquid foundation. This brush can be used to apply all types of powders - loose, compact, blushes, and bronzers, evenly across your face.

No shedding or bleeding during wash and absolutely no unpleasant smell from the bristles. One of my favourite brushes in this set.

This Blush Brush is quite similar to the powder brush, with the same type of soft white natural bristles used, except that it has a smaller head and less dense. It picks up my powder easily, and gives a sheer finish to my blusher appplication without the heavy look. It did not shed and bleed during wash. However, one or two strands of bristles came off during my initial application.

This Foundation Brush is made of synthetic fibers. The head is a bit flat and softer compared to Sigma's foundation brush. It does perform its job well. It helps to apply my foundation smoothly and evenly, without much of a problem. ( although I am used to using a stippling brush like MAC 187 to apply my liquid foundation)

It can also be used to apply cream product such as moisturisers.

This Large Eyeshadow Brush is densely packed with the right amount of bristles to apply my eye shadows. I like how fluffy and yet dense it is. Made of natural bristles which are very soft. It picks up the eyeshadows effortlessly, and blends well.. This brush resembles my Holy Grail MAC 217 blending brush , just that its head is less dense and not so fluffy. Overall, this is a great brush, and definitely one of my favourite brushes in this set.

This Medium Eyeshadow Brush is a slightly smaller version of the large eyeshadow brush. It has a smaller head as compared to the latter. I use it to apply eyeshadow to the outer corners of my eyes to create the outer V shape. The soft bristles are densely packed with a rounded tip. It can also be use to blend out harsh lines for the eyelid colors. Yes, this is another of my favourite picks in this set.

These densely packed bristles are made of natural bristles which are short and soft, and spotted a rounded tip. One can use this Wide Smudge Brush to pack eyeshadows onto eyelids, or it can double up as a blending brush. It looks pretty much like my Crown C135 eyeshadow brush which I used in almost all looks to pack on my eyeshadows. Also another of my favourite brush.

This flat-tip Lip/Concealer brush is made of synthetic fibers which works great in the application of gel/cream products.Although it is stated on Suesh website that it is a lip brush, it can also be used as a concealer brush.  It works pretty much the same as most of the my concealer/lip brushes.

This Angled Brow Brush is made of natural bristles and used in the application of eyebrow powder and/or to soften the eyebrows colors. The medium-stiff and short bristles picks up eyebrow powder easily to fill in sparse brows and create shape and thickness using upwards stroke.

This Thin Eyeliner Brush is made of synthetic fibers. The tip is rather fine and soft, it sorts of remind me of the brush that I used when I did eyelash/eyebrow tinting for others. This is my first time I am using such a fine tip brush to apply my eyeliner. At first, I thought it was quite difficult, but after a few tries, I find that this super-fine brush allows me to line my gel eyeliner with extreme precision ( a very fine line) and control how thick or thin I want my liner to be. However, it is not advisable to use this brush if you want to apply gel liner to the whole of your eyelids, up to the crease lines.

This Mascara Brush is made of synthetic fibers. Just use it to comb through your lashes while they are still wet, to prevent eyelashes from clumping together. Alternatively, you can use it as a brow brush to groom your eyebrows as well. A quick sweep through your eye brows will brush out unruly brows. This works like any mascara brush.

A closer look at the brush handles:

Made in Hong Kong, these brushes are very well made and of good quality. The glossy, deep red berry colored handles give a perfect contrast to the black ferrulesOne can also noticed that "Suesh Makeup Toolkit" logo is neatly printed  in the middle of each of the brush handle.

A closer look at the brush case:

The size of the brush case is quite compact for a personal essential brush set which houses all the basic brushes one would need. Unlike a normal matt black case, this brush case has got some patchwork like patterns on the cover.(Click on this link for a better view of the brush case) When the brush case is closed, it measures approximately 125mm x 215mm, and a mere 30mm in thickness. ( My Sigma Travel Brush Kit measures 105mm x 190mm, and 35mm in thickness) so it is not so bulky in comparison to a travel brush set. The brush case is roomy enough to add in 1-2 more thin-handled brushes into the slots.

Overall, I find that Suesh 10-piece brush set is of good quality for the price tag. All the brushes are well made and the bristles are very softThese brushes allow application of products effortlessly and evenly. The eyeshadow brushes are fantastic! If this set comes with a bullet/crease brush, a lip brush (with cover) and a stippling brush, it will be perfect! Personally I find that Suesh 10-piece brush set will make a good travelling companion, because of its compact size, plus it comes with all the essential brushes in a pretty black brush case.

I would not say Suesh brushes are better quality than my MAC and Shu Uemura brushes, but these brushes are definitely value for money, good quality brushes, that won't burn a hole in our pockets. For $90, one can opt for 1, or at most 2 brushes from well-known brands, but one can also invest the money in a complete brush set (with brush case) from Suesh. No wonder Suesh, the makeup brushes and tools brand has taken the Asia-Pacific market by storm, and is so well received and highly raved among beauty enthusiasts/makeup artists in Philippines and New Zealand.

One thing I like about Suesh is they provide free local registered mail for all items (except cosmetics storage such as those bulky train cases). Suesh's customer service is also commendable.

My mind is still lemming for Suesh's professional looking 16-piece brush set though.. Anyone of you has the 16-piece brush set? Are the brushes really soft, as soft as the brushes in the 10-piece brush set??

 * As I have not personally see and feel the 16-piece brush set, I cannot vouch for its softness and quality.. but if the brushes in the 16-piece brush set are really as soft as the brushes in the 10-piece brush set, than I would suggest to go for the 16-piece brush set since it is just $15 difference for 6 more brushes..definitely more worth! ('',) I would love to see and feel the 16-piece brush set one day! But I think it will depend on personal preferences, cause both sets have different brushes and brush cases, and the colors of the brush handles are different too.

Sigma Travel Kit Naughty In Black

I received an email notification  to inform me that my package was shipped on 12 August 2010. And I received my package from Sigma on 20 August 2010. It just took 8 days to ship the package from USA to Singapore, considered quite fast since its through USPS First Class International mail service.

^ Much thoughts were put into the packaging of the brush kit.. Instead of just bubble wrapping the brush kit, the brush kit was presented in a draw-string purple pouch, and even the complimentary gift was placed inside a smaller draw-string pouch..  A brochure, and a even an instruction card to inform us how to clean and maintain my newly acquired Sigma brushes were included in the package. Presentation of products is really impressive! ('',)

^ The instruction card on how to clean and maintain the Sigma Makeup brushes.

^ The 7 brushes in the travel kit.. The stippling or duo fibre brush on the most right is a free gift that comes with the purchase of the kit. ( and if one ordered the travel kit in pink, the foundation brush (3rd from left) will be the free gift, but in the end, still will have all of these 8 brushes).. All the face brushes come with a plastic brush guard to protect the bristles of the brushes., at least they won't go out of shape.

Ok, I admit the very first thing I did when I see these brushes was to sweep the bristles at the back of my hand to test whether they are soft..and all the bristles of these brushes are really soft, especially for the 2 bigger face brushes - F30 and Large Powder brush and F40 Large Angled Contour brush.

The next thing I did was to smell the bristles.. I guess nobody would like smelly bristles brushing our skin right.. All the bristles do not have any unpleasant smell, except for F40 Large Angled Contour brush ( 2nd brush on the left). It really has got an unpleasant smell, the first thing that came to my mind was smelly pig's hair even though I have never smell pig's hair before.. Funny! I was concerned about it and sent an email to Sigma, and a lovely and helpful staff explained to me that F40's bristles is actually goat's hair.. and added that its normal that some brushes tend to have stronger smell than others, and suggested me to wash the bristles with a mild baby shampoo followed by perfumed body wash. True enough, the horrible smell is gone, and now my F40 bristles smell nice..

A Closer look at the 8 travel size Sigma brushes in black. In the past, Sigma labelled its brushes' model numbers somewhat similar to M.A.C ( for e.g a MAC 217 is Sigma's SS217). Now Sigma totally changed the way they labelled their brushes... What is labelled on the brush handle include the Sigma brand logo, the type of brush and its model number (F50, F40 etc for Face brushes , and E40, E55 etc for Eye brushes)

In this kit, the longest brush (large powder brush, 1st brush from left) is around 16cm, and the shortest brush (eye shading brush, 5th brush from left) is around 12.8cm.

More about the pouch.. When I first saw the pouch, I was quite surprised that it looked bigger than what I used to perceive.. All along I thought it was a very small brush kit, but did not expect Sigma travel kit pouch to be this big.. Ok still smaller than my full size brush holder. One thing to note is these Sigma travel brushes are considered quite big ( for travel size), Sigma travel size eyeshadow brushes are just a bit shorter than some of my full-size eyeshadow brushes...Which make them easier to hold for application.

Here is a picture showing a comparison of the size of Sigma Travel kit pouch with my BodyShop and MAC Colour Forms Brush holder... ( The size is in between a full size pouch and a small travel brush holder)

The most important thing is how the brush perform..here are my personal thoughts on the brushes..

* I washed all the brushes with mild baby shampoo before I started using them..

- Sigma F30 Large Powder Brush ( Natural bristles)

I can feel the bristles are very soft when I use it on my skin. Very dense with a rounded top. I use it to apply loose powder after applying my liquid foundation. It also work as a blusher brush. It is pretty similar to my MAC 129SE, but its slightly denser.  Slight bleeding occurred when I washed it for the first time, luckily after 2-3 washes, there is no bleeding. A few strands shedded during first wash too. However, do wash this brush thoroughly before using it. Nonetheless, this is one of my favourite brushes in this Kit.

- Sigma F40 Large Angled Contour Brush (Natural Bristles)

As mentioned earlier, this brush has got an unpleasant smell when I smelt it before washing the bristles. I followed the advice given by Sigma staff, that was to wash the bristles with a mild baby shampoo followed by a perfumed body wash to get rid of the smell finally. I do not contour my face so I use it as a blusher brush and it works perfectly fine. Very soft bristles pick up the blusher easily and I am able to apply my blusher effortlessly. This is also another of my favourite brush in this kit.

- Sigma F50 Duo Fibre Brush (Natural Bristles)

Slight Bleeding and shedding occurred when I washed this brush though on first wash, but no more bleeding after washing it a few times.

When it comes to applying liquid foundation, I will always reach out for my Holy Grail MAC 187 or ELF powder brush, because I will use lesser liquid foundation yet able to produce an even finish within seconds. So when I received Sigma F50 Duo Fibre brush in the kit, I am most eager to try out this brush. and the result is even application of my liquid foundation on my face, but it feel abit different from MAC 187. I think because the bristles is less dense than MAC 187.  If the bristles can be densely packed, I think it will be much better. Not too sure if Sigma full size F50 will be better though?

 - Sigma F60 Foundation Brush ( Synthetic bristles)

This foundation brush can be used to apply liquid foundation or any cream-based products such as moisturisers and concealers on large areas. I never own similar foundation brush before, so I cannot compared with others. However, I tried using it to apply liquid foundation on my face and it works great, giving a smooth and well blended finish. I can alternate between this foundation brush and F50 brush when it comes to application of liquid foundation.

- Sigma F70 Concealer brush (Synthetic Bristles)

The rounded, tapered, flat shape bristles make it ideal to conceal the under eye areas. The bristles are quite densely packed for a small concealer brush.I love how I can easily control the amount of concealer that I applied on my under eye areas. It also makes it easy for me to apply concealer to corners of my eyes as well as the corners of my nose. Concealer is evenly blended out. It is also recommended for a precise application in small areas.

- Sigma E30 Pencil Brush (Natural Bristles)

This is slightly pointed at the tip, for precise application of color on the crease, outer corner and upper and lower lash line. I use it to apply eyeshadow on the outer "V" or outer corners of my eyes, and it gives precise application. I also like to use it to soften/ smudge my pencil liner on my lash line, so that the liner won't appear so harsh.

- Sigma E40 Tapered Blending Brush (Natural Bristles)

This brush is specially designed to apply and blend color on the crease. All along, I use MAC 217 to blend my eyeshadow. I know Sigma E40 is pretty similar to MAC 224 (a blending brush) which I have heard raves about, but I never try before. So I am pretty excited to try out Sigma E40. However, I find that its a tad too big and fluffy for my liking. It can still blend out harsh line though, but I much prefer it to be more dense like MAC 217. Most of the times, I used Sigma E40 to apply eyeshadow under my brows. If Sigma E40 can be replaced with Sigma E35 (something like MAC217), it will be great!

- Sigma E55 Eye Shading Brush (Natural Bristles)

This brush is soft and dense with a rounded tip. It is a perfect tool to use for application of eyeshadows onto eyelids. To make the eyeshadow color more intense, simply pack on the eyeshadow using the brush. It also work great to apply eyeshadows to the outer eyelids, when the side of the brush is used (Just tilt the brush.) This is also one of my favourite brush in this kit.

Overall, the brushes in Sigma Travel kit are pretty good, soft and the size/length is comfortable enough to hold. I think if the kit comes with an eyeliner brush ( for gel eyeliner application) , an eyebrow brush ( for eyebrow powder application), and a lip brush.  it can be called a complete travel brush kit. .

The price of this Sigma Travel Kit (with 8 travel size brushes) cost US$49, with shipping of US$10.31 (using USPS First Class International mail), which added up to around SG$83) ..Actually if I were to choose the full size complete set, it will add up to around SG$157(including shipping), with 12 full size brushes,1 complimentary travel size eye brush and a bigger brush roll.. I wonder if the quality of the brushes in the travel set the same as the full size set??

I just wish my Sigma E40 can be replaced to Sigma E35 ( something with a more dense bristles) for my blending brush, it will be perfect!

All products can be shipped directly to Singapore without going through Vpost. Reasonable direct shipping charges apply.

Turn Your Old Mascara Into An Eyelash/Brow Brush

Use this cleansed mascara wand as an eyelash brush/separator. After application of mascara, just comb through your lashes while they are still wet, to prevent eyelashes from clumping together.

Alternatively, you can use it as a brow brush to groom your eyebrows as well. A quick sweep through your eye brows will brush out unruly brows.

Recycle your old mascara into an eyelash/brow brush instead of throwing them into the bins.

** I will be sending in this beauty tip to Chantana and Clara's blog contests.. Wish me luck in winning $100 Kose product vouchers... ('',)

My First ELF Purchases - Powder Brush and Blush Brush

Finally got my first ELF  brushes... Had heard quite a lot of raves on their studio line especially their powder brush. ..and I got 2 of them, as well as the powder brush.. Should I have known that these brushes were going for a whopping 75% off, I would have grab a few more.. (because I did not know of the discount rate when I ordered..but i was glad I did order at least 3)

I washed 2 of the brushes yesterday, the powder brush shed alittle.. no black color dye coming out or whatever...and I used both brushes today...

Will there be a super super huge difference between a US$3 ELF powder brush vs a SG$82 MAC 187 duo fibre brush..??

Well, as you can see from the picture, how dense the bristles of ELF powder brush is.. in fact, I find this brush more suitable to be used as a stippling brush, without the need to swirl.. it is sort of very pixelated ( so dense).. compared to MAC187, which I always used to stipple follow by swirl to make it more even.. ( ok, I know MAC187 also can be used purely with stippling method, but somehow, I always find the need to swirl to blend off) ..   ELF powder brush stipple the liquid foundation effortlessly with the tap tap method..

My verdict of ELF powder brush after just 1 try: ELF powder brush is also a great brush for this price tag... It can perform what MAC187 does.. I will definitely buy again for back up pieces if I got the chance again.. (MAC 187 is too expensive to buy a few pieces for back up, but ELF powder brush is so cheap... US$3 = SG$4.50, if plus shipping, it should be slightly under SG$7).. but of course, it will cost much cheaper if there is any sale coupon.. For those of you who like MAC187 for liquid foundation application, think you would also like this brush. ( now I know why it has received quite good scores over at Makeup Alley)

Next is ELF Blush brush... This is one of the newer additional to Studio line brush... Despite reading reviews that it is a small brush, I still went on to buy it... And after seeing it when I received it, my first impression was it indeed has got a small brush head...

It is quite similar in term of size and texture as my Shu 20 Pony which is also small and flat. ( I would prefer my blush brush to be of fluffier brush head though).. ELF blush brush cost US$3 and Shu Uemura cost around SG$91.. and I can say they can rather similar except that Shu 20 is much denser, slightly more fluffy.

For those of you who like Shu 20, think you would also will like ELF blush brush.. In fact, you can test out Shu20 at Shu counters, to ah gar ah gar know how ELF blush brush feel like..

I personally dont really like flat and small head blush head.. so I still prefer the powder brush.

Next time I will want to order the other highly raved studio line brush which is the ELF complexion brush. and more back up of ELF powder brush.

** Special thanks to Xiaotian for helping me to order.. ('',)

My Small Collection Of Makeup Brushes

I love cosmetics especially cosmetics tools such as makeup brushes, Rubis of Switzerland tweezers, eyelash curlers ... here is my small collection of makeup brushes. (including the cheap brushes)

1st one on the left is my most expensive brush out of my collection- Shu Uemura Pony 20 blusher brush. The bristles is soft, but I find it abit flat.. normally the Shu Pony 20 brush display piece at the Shu counter are all fluffy (pong-pong) type,...but mine still in its original condition which is abit flat.. I find my blusher brush to be pong pong type.. nonetheless, I use this brush when I use my Shu blusher, since the size of the brush fit the pan of the blusher... I heard cotters mentioning their Shu Pony 20 brush still look as good as new one even after 8 years, so I guess its a quality brush..

2nd brush: MAC 187 - My HG liquid foundation brush, slightly cheaper than Shu 20. I really love this brush, I use it everytime I apply my liquid foundation. Not only I will use less liquid foundation, it saves me time and provide even coverage. Just tap tap, swirl swirl and done.. After using this 187, and back to using sponge.. I dont like the coverage the sponge give. So far, I have yet to use 187 for blushers, heard its good to apply pigmented blushers with it..

3rd brush: MAC 217- A highly raved blending brush, so I bought it.. Its quite good to blend out harsh lines..

The next 5 brushes (still in wrappers) are my Color forms brush set which I still cant bear to use until today.. haha.. they are 187SE, 168SE, 212SE, 275SE, and 219SE.

The next 5 green brushes are my MAC brushes from the pattern maker collection. They are 129SE, 239SE, 316SE, 266SE and 219SE. Well, as you all know the quality of MAC SE brushes are not so good compared to their full size ones.. but surprisingly, I find this 129SE in this collection to be quite good, soft and not scratchy at all. I have used it for a few months and its still in good condition. still soft and in good shape.

The next four brushes in black are from Crownbrush.com, in fact I have them for a couple of years and these are the brushes that I reach for whenever I do my makeup.. I use them almost every time.. They are pretty good. This is a closer picture of these 4 crown brushes.

The next batch of pinkish-purple handled brushes - are a set of no brand brushes which I have them for more than 6 years, and still using them quite often now..

Next is the shortest brush, its the kabuki brush from EDM ( Everyday minerals), I remember I bought this from a cotter for $13, and I actually bought it for the purpose of EDM products, but too bad I dont quite like EDM mineral foundation.. so I seldom use this brush.. but this should be my softest brush out of my collection..its really super super soft!

Follow by the bodyshop blusher brush ( green handle), It has been a long time since I use this brush.. because I find it cannot pick up colors well, and the bristles like too flat.. the bristles are soft since they are made of synthetic hairs.. but personally I dont like to use it for applying blushers..

The next one is the Kate eyeliner brush ( short black handled) - this brush is included when I bought my Kate gel liner, and its quite good to use to apply gel liner, the bristles are firm yet soft, to draw the liner.

Ok lastly, the next 4 handled brushes are Estee Lauder brushes, which were included when I purchased the blockbuster makeup set, I seldom use them , even 2 of them are still brand new in wrappers.

That is all for my makeup brushes .. I am now thinking of getting Sigma makeup brushes.. they look like quite good ( but I am considering between the 12 pieces complete set US$64 or the new 6 pieces face/eye set at US$49) .. I also want to own some bobbi brown brushes in future..
