I Have Completed My 10-Day AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Challenge

Remember my 10-day AFC Chef’s Diet Risotto Challenge which I posted some time back?

I had completed the challenge, without me realizing it until I took out the last pouch of AFC Chef’s Diet Risotto Meal Replacement from the box. (That was fast, how time flies!)

A recap of my tasks in this AFC Chef’s Diet Risotto Challenge..

• Replace my heaviest meal with 1 pack of risotto, for 10 days in a row
• Eat as per normal during my other meals.
• Post my "before" and "after" weight before/after the challenge.

As my heaviest meal of the day is my dinner, I replaced my dinner with AFC Chef’s Diet Risotto Meal for 10 consecutive days beginning 11 February 2011.

My “Before” Weight:

And after 10 days of indulging the delicious AFC Chef’s Diet Risotto during dinner time, here is ..

My “After” weight:

55.7kg – 54.6kg = 1.1kg

My weight loss in term of Body Mass Index (BMI):

(Are you in the healthy BMI range? Check out your BMI on our Health Promotion Board website today.)

I did not even exercise during my challenge; neither do I require skipping other meals nor watching my diet. I just ate as per normal and replaced my dinner with AFC Chef’s Diet Risotto. Although it is not a drastic weight reduction, I am happy with the result that I got in just 10 days. In these 10 day period, I actually look forward to my dinner when I can savor delicious risotto in assorted flavors - Tomato with Basil, Cream of Mushroom, Curry Stew, Assorted Cheese, and Mediterranean Seafood.

Review: AFC Chef's Diet Risotto

Remember the box of AFC Chef's Diet Risotto which I mentioned about 2 weeks ago.. I had tried all 5 flavours and I am back with my reviews...

Actually Risotto is a class of Italian dishes of rice cooked in broth to a creamy consistency.. and AFC Chef's Diet Risotto recipe is created by renowned chef of Italian restaurant in Japan..so if you are a risotto-lover or someone who love nice food, I am sure you will love these 5 delicious low-calorie replacement meals...

So which flavour did I choose to try first?

Dada...

It is the SEAFOOD! ( As shown on the light blue circled-label)

First of all, let me show you how I heat up my AFC Chef's Diet Risotto sealed pouch....

Serving AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Seafood on a plate...

and look what I found in it..

The Full Ingredients List of AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Mediterranean Seafood:

Taste of AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Mediterranean Seafood:

The first thought that I have when I ate my first mouth of AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Seafood flavour, I was like " Wow! this is delicious man and it tastes like clam chowder!"  Definitely did not taste like traditional yucky strawberry/chocolate milk shake meal replacement packs which I had a couple of years back. In fact, it tasted like seafood thick porridge with real japanese clam and scallop to give the extra bites. The risotto is made from full grained white rice and low-calorie Konjac which gives another texture to the food, something that taste like pearly-sago that is so smooth and chewy. Konjac is made from Japanese Konnyaku potato - it has a similar texture to rice, but much lower in calories. The high fiber content keeps you full and helps ease bowel movement too! I'm sure you have eaten konjac in konnyaku jelly or Japanese dishes - how many things can be healthy AND good for you at the same time?

On the 2nd day, I chose Tomato with Basil..

The Full Ingredients List of AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Tomato with Basil:

Taste of AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Tomato with Basil:

Tomato with Basil is something that I associated with pasta, the tomato sauce that goes with the pasta.. but I did not expect it to taste so different than the usual tomato sauce that is served with pasta.. infact it did not taste like one.. as it tasted much like a vegetable soup with tomato and a hint of basil.. Something like porridge cooked in Minestrone Soup, then there were also real carrots, mushrooms and chicken for me to chew.. The name of the flavour may not sound appetising, but this is really delicious!

Then the next flavour I had was... Curry Stew

The Full Ingredients list for AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Curry Stew:

Taste of AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Curry Stew:

This tasted EXACTLY like Japanese Curry - It is non spicy with rich flavorful Japanese curry aroma. I am not really a fan of Japanese Curry though. Carrots and chicken give the extra bites. I managed to finish the whole plate because it is still quite nice. If you are a Japanese curry-lover, I am sure you will love this flavour.

Next up, I had Cream of Mushroom..

- My mum bought some coriander leaves so I used alittle as garnish.

The Full Ingredients List for AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Cream of Mushroom:

Taste of AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Cream of Mushroom:

The light creamy sauce is flavourful with mushroomy aroma. There are 2 different types of mushrooms in the meal, one the canned mushroom and another should be the fresh mushroom. This is light yet flavourful, and I love this flavour.. ya I am a mushroom lover so how can I don't love cream of mushroom.

And last but not least . its Assorted Cheese

Oppss, I was too excited and forgot to take a picture of the pouch. ( It is the one with a dark orange circled-label)

Full Ingredients List for AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Assorted Cheese:

Taste of AFC Chef's Diet Risotto Assorted Cheese:

The name of the flavour states Assorted Cheese and it contained Parmesan, Cheddar, Gouda and Gorgonzola. I cannot differentiate the 4 types of cheese that was used in the making, but I definitely can taste cheese with a mixed of mushroom. Not to worry the proportion of cheese used is just nice..In fact, I find that it tasted like cream of mushroom but with added cheese. Sliced of canned mushrooms can also be found in my meal.

Overall, I really enjoyed eating AFC Chef's Diet Risotto..All the flavours are delicious and it is easy to prepare, just requires 2-5 minutes of time to reheat and a low calorie meal is ready to be served. Although it is not a super big portion, the 250g amount is sufficient to make me feel full (Thanks to the main ingredient - Konjac which is an excellent soluble fibre for sustained fullness and promotes bowel movement)

Having 5 different flavours in a box also allows consumers like myself to choose what to eat according to mood and preferences. The most important thing I like is they really taste nice and yummy like restaurant-standard meals especially Tomato with Basil, Mediterranean Seafood, Cream of Mushroom and Assorted Cheese. If you served a plate of AFC Chef's Diet Risotto to your friend, I bet he/she won't be able to tell that it is a meal replacement food, because it tastes really delicious with real ingredients. With these tasty pre-packed meals on hand everyday, shaving off a few kgs is so much easier, especially for people who want to lose weight but are too lazy to come up with a diet plan.

If you were to ask me to pick one favourite out of the 5, I think it is a tie between Tomato with Basil and Cream of Mushroom. I would not mind eating either one for 30 days consecutively.

A box of AFC Chef's Diet Risotto which consists of 5 different flavours cost $36.

Thanks to AFC Japan for letting me try out this delicious AFC Chef's Diet Risotto meals and let me experience delicious low-calorie meal replacement food that taste like restaurant food.

Skyline View On Singapore Flyer

Earlier this evening, I went to take the Singapore Flyer ride, with my Aunt, brother and his gf.. Our first time taking the flyer although it was launched in 2008... I always see this ultra mega wheel with many protuding capsules whenever I am on ECP.. and finally today I was in one of the capsules! ('',)

Our tickets.. come in different designs... We got to keep these tickets as souveirs.

First, we got to go through by the Flight Entrance. The first thing we did was to scan our bags through the scanners (something like passing through our customs)...then we scanned the tickets to gain entry to the flyer... ( got to walk through a passage way before we reach the platform)

Although there were quite a number of passengers (more than 40+) in the Queue, it was pretty fast. We got into one of the empty capsules within 5 minutes.. Ready to go *v*...( The capsule was still moving when everyone walked in...but it was more than enough time for the 10+ of us to make our way in)

Excited... haha, it was already 7.30pm when I stepped in.. ya, the sky had already started to turn dark.. so what can I see?

Marina Bay Integrated Resort...

Marina Bay Golf Course

Fullerton Hotel, Clifford Pier, tall office building in Shenton Way..

When the sky turned darker.... a different scene of the IR..can only see the lights..

Suntec City..

Almost reaching the peak of Singapore Flyer...

Looking down.. pretty scary but luckily the capsule was moving really very very slowly that we cannot feel its moving... If its a transparent bottom capsule, I think it will be really scary when you see the surroundings at a certain height... When I was looking down, I suddenly asked myself if I have the courage to try parachuting..Most probably not, even at 165metres, I am already scared.. imagine jumping off a plane in the middle of the sky... I think I will faint!!! LOL

After a 30 minute ride, we are coming back to ground....

A fun and interesting experience for me to see the sceneries of Singapore... but most of the buildings, landmarks were abit dark... so can only figure out through the shape and lightings... Its pretty scary when I looked down from the top, but the super slow speed makes me feel as if I am looking out of the window from a building, we really do not feel that it was moving at all.. except that the sceneries will change as the wheel revolved. All the staff were very friendly too... If I were to take the ride again, I will choose to ride in the day time.. at least can see all the sceneries clearly and a different experience.

My Canon camera really antique and cannot make it.. all the pictures I took on the flyer were so dark.. when I used auto mode, I can see the person, but not the background.. when I switch off the flash light, can see the sceneries, but cannot see the person. :( [Stupid Camera! Going to find a better camera soon]

Then we went over to Marina Square Imperial Treasure to indulge in yummy la mian and super nice xiao long bao... !

I have been to Imperial Treasure a couple of times. It serves pretty nice on-the-spot hand made la mian.. If you prefer something light, can try the pork and vegetable la mian (2nd picture in the top row), but today I realised its Zha Jiang La Mian (1st picture in the bottom row) is quite delicious ( Score: 8 out of 10) with a mixture of minced meat and mushroom in a salted bean gravy.. The fried rice can skip, not worth for the price of $10.50, its just an average plate of yang chow fried rice, nothing special.

We ordered 4 baskets of the Xiao Long Baos.. These are the best xiao long baos I have eaten in Singapore to date. ( When I want to eat Xiao Long Baos, Imperial Treasure will be the only place that appears on my mind) Even my brother loves them too. (Don't use Din Tai Fung's Xiao Long Baos to compare, cause they cannot make it...personally I dont find Din Tai Fung's nice ..infact I find them over-rated)

Anyway, these xiao long baos just so juicy and nice.. simply dip the xiao long bao with vinegar and pop it in your mouth, and with one bite all the soup will burst out filling your mouth with the sweet and meaty flavours.. Or bite a hole at the top, savour the soup, and eat up the rest. ( Score: 9 out of 10) It's definitely a happy food for me!

The golden pastry is nothing special, imagine eating flattened 'fried butterfly' stuffed with spring onions.. its how it taste like..

One funny thing, when we were ordering, the waitress was afraid that we could not finish our food as she said its abit too much for the 4 of us.. Of course, we managed to polish off everything! ('',)

I had an enjoyable Friday evening! ('',)

Tang Tea House At City Square JB

In recent months, I have been hooked to Tang Tea House At City Square JB... Ever since I found this dining place, I no longer visit Kim Gary ( located at the basement)- Actually at Kim Gary, there is only one item that is nice which is the stone rice bowl.. the rest of their dishes really cannot make it, it has got tasteless spaghetti.

I have to admit in the past few years, I did pass by this shop.. but it somehow did not attract me to want to try their food there..but after having dine there once one fine day, I was hooked ever since.. ( What exactly made me kept going back again and again?)

On the first page of the menu, it shows the set menu ..Frankly speaking, I tried 2-3 of them, and I can say they are just average, dont expect any surprise.. if you are the first time there, please skip their set menu.. or else you will end up disappointed.

Some of the average food that I had tried before...

All their set menu comes with a hot/cold drink.. but the taste of the food really just average.. maybe a 5 out of 10 ( OK, I admit I have high expectations when it comes to eating) A nasi lemak set with a cup of hot/cold drink cost only RM8.00.

The Hor Fun and the 'Sheng' mian ( last 2 of the left column in the picture) are from their ala-carte menu... Yes, the food items in their ala-carte menu taste much better than those found under the set menu... ( around 6.5 out of 10) .. For around 2-3 Ringgits more, its advisable to choose from the ala-carte menu and order a separate drink...

The best part comes.. These are the 3 dishes/drink that kept me hooked.. I can purposely drive in just to eat these.. and I did eat them twice a week, once or twice before ( Crazy right?)

1) Yang Chow Fried Rice (RM9.00)

I was quite crazy over its fried rice ( comparable to the one at China Town Complex's Food Court fried rice and my mum's fried rice), everything was just right.. not oily, fresh ingredients, tasty.. ( actually the picture above should be the extra portion.. yes, I was so crazy over it, that I asked the staff if they serve bigger plate since the normal portion seem so little.. well, in the end, for extra RM2, the portion does not differ much, maybe just 1 or 2 mouthfuls more of rice, plus 2-3 bigger prawns) Eat this plate of rice on its own or top with green chilli for more flavours... ( Score: 9 out of 10) I also tried the luncheon meat fried rice, its also not bad.. but I prefer the yang chow fried rice.. they actually serve a variety of fried rice.. I don't know how the other fried rice taste, but you will never go wrong if you choose its yang chow fried rice.

2) Fried Fish Thick Bee Hoon With Milk (RM9.00)

The first time I ate this.. I was so surprised ! Why did it taste so nice...? ( Ok, Its comparable to the Tan Quee Lan St Fish Soup Stall, which is besides Apple Strudel..in fact better in my opinion)

I am a fish soup person and this yummy-licious fish soup thick beehoon meets every of my expectations.. The soup is really nice, flavourful.. with a perfect blend of rich condense milk and Hua Diao Jiu... ( don't worry it wont make you drunk!) Adding Hua Diao Jiu in the milky soup may sound weird, but it really enhances the overall taste of the soup making it very tasty! There is also some fried scramble eggs, a few slices of ginger and some green vegetables together with thick beehoon in the soup ( if you dont like thick beehoon, they also have thin beehoon, kuey teow and rice)... If there are more slices of fish.. it will be superb.. coz I think there are only 4-5 pieces of fried fish.. And I normally add some chopped chilli padi in the soup and its double satisfaction.. Oppss... I am getting hungry *v* when I think of this fried fish soup bee hoon ( Score: 9.1 out of 10)

3) Tea With Milk (RM$2.20-$2.40, cant remember the exact price)

For tea lovers like me, I really like the tea .... its those very rich type.. and it just taste right!! ( Think of Mr. Teh Tarik tea... its something like that.. just that this is the Chinese version of Mr. Teh Tarik tea) So far, it has not disappoint me.. ( Score: 9 out of 10) Regarding how other drinks taste like, I am not sure coz I only ordered the hot tea with milk everytime I am there.

The food and drinks served here are prepared by aunts who are more experienced and serious.. so that is why the food and tea here so nice ( and I guess the set menu already very cheap, they might have cook them in bulk resulting in a drop of quality as compared to their food found under the ala-carte menu)

Tang Tea House is located at Level 4, City Square Mall JB..
( 2 Levels above Watsons side)

* They don't charge 10% service charge.. but just a 5% tax if I remember correctly.. I know it just cost around SG$10 for 2 main dishes and 2 hot tea.. ( Cheap and nice!)

If you visit City Square JB, do give my 3 favourite food/drinks a try.. and let me know if you like or hate them..

But so far, I brought a few friends, Dear and Aunt to eat/drink these 3 items, none of them said not nice..
