TWISTED <撞鬼>

Last Saturday, I watched the special preview of the latest horror action comedy TWISTED (撞鬼) at Shaw Lido. (Special thanks to omy.sg for the invitation!) And it was my first time watching at Shaw Lido threatre since its renovation - a pretty major transformation that gives the place a total brand new look.. Posh, Clean and nice.. and all the seats are leather (or synthetic leather). * Opps I know I digress.. ok back to the movie...
Synopsis:

The story of TWISTED revolves around a drug dealer who impregnated a girl, a pair of conmen who wants to turn over a new leaf and 4 cabin crews whose lives were turned upside down over a fateful night of drugs and booze.

Before the screening of the movie, most of the actors and actresses made their appearance and shared with us about the movie.

When it was comedian Mark Lee's turn, he joked with us (in hokkien) that Linda Liao could not make it to this preview because she got no money to fly to Singapore, and that this movie want to convey to us that if our hearts got ghost, there will be ghost, and even see Zhu Mi Mi will think she's ghost! (the way he said that was so funny that made everyone laughed!)

Twisted is made up of 3 stories...

Guan (starring Mark Lee) is a flashy, womanizing drug dealer. It was during one of his many flings that he’d knocked up Mimi (starring Candy Lim), who turned obsessive in getting his attention which led to a fatal end. Don't you think Mark look super hilarious in this sport rims outfit? Anyway, this story is very funny and I was laughing all the way instead of feeling scared.

Cavin and Randall (starring Cavin Soh, Randall Tan) spike the drinks of their colleagues, Linda and Tracy (starring Linda Liao, Tracy Lee) during a night out at the club. Watch Pretty Linda Liao and Tracy Lee in action....

Fa (starring Zhu Mimi) and her daughter, Yi Ning (starring Joey Leong) were victims of her abusive husband. Fa who sensed that her daughter was being possessed went to seek help of two mediums. Personally I find this story the best out of the 3, because it kept me in suspense wanting to know what would happen next...

Among these seemingly unrelated characters, their paths crossed and intertwined… Somehow, ill-luck seems to transcend the characters.
This is a story of individuals with fates intertwined and their paths collided. A series of twisted events that is a study on cause and effect and how our actions affect the people around us.

I find that this movie is more of a comedy with a mix of violence and some horror at certain parts. However, it did leave me ponder over Karma ... If people did not do bad/evil things in the first place, bad karma would not have fallen upon them.. Will guys who play/slept with women behind their wives' backs be awaken and repent after watching Twisted?
Catch Twisted when it opens in Singapore on July 28, 2011..

Predators

Watched Predators on Saturday Night..

Its about 7 men and 1 woman who were brought together on an alien planet as prey... and they were all trying to find a way out.. but the predators were too powerful that killed most of them.. Of course, there were survivors in the end..

I do not find this movie nice ... bad ending.. just don't find its worth the weekend price.. will give it a 5 out of 10.

Haunted Changi

There was 1 particular poster of an upcoming movie which caught my eyes.. "Haunted Changi" when I was walking along the corridors of Cathay Cinema @ Downtown East..

Can you make a guess which movie is that???

Yes, its a horror movie about the famous haunted Old Changi Hospital..

Why was I attracted to it and feel like watching a HORROR movie??

Because in my younger days, I went to the Old Changi Hospital in the middle of the night, with my biker friends, to scare ourselves.. Until today, I have never really have a complete tour of the building, although I had been there a couple of times, because we always ran out of the building half way... those were really terrifying yet exciting experiences.. There was once I went in the day time, also felt scared....I guess its a horror movie that will bring back my childhood memories.. but I am not sure if I can keep my eyes widely open throughout the movie, or cover them up with my hands... LOL

This movie will only be released in early September.. Still a long way to go....

Coming Soon: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Movie

Saw from my email that The Sorcerer's Apprentice will be releasing soon ...

Synopsis

Walt Disney Studios, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Jon Turteltaub, the creators of the “National Treasure” franchise, present THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE -- an innovative and epic comedy adventure about a sorcerer and his hapless apprentice who are swept into the center of an ancient conflict between good and evil.

Balthazar Blake (NICOLAS CAGE) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (ALFRED MOLINA). Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (JAY BARUCHEL), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE. The screenplay is by Matt Lopez and Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard from a screen story by Matt Lopez and Larry Konner & Mark Rosenthal.

Have you sometimes wonder if you have some kind of special powers, what will you do or want to change?

For me, if I am a sorcerer’s apprentice, I think I would use my powers to vanish the existence of cigarettes in the whole world. In this way, everyone do not have to waste their money to buy cigarettes for their daily fix and they do not have to smoke their health away. Plus non-smokers like me do not have to breathe in second hand smoke. No cigarette-buds lying all over the floor. Everyone will have better health.... ( Too bad, I do not have such power to change this fact!)

Catch The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Movie starting from 22nd July 2010 and join the Walt Disney Studios Singapore official Facebook and Twitter page!”

Let us take on a ride into a magical adventure this month and see what how the Nicholas Cage and Jay Baruchel work together to stop the forces of darkness.

Movies, Movies and Movies ...

Oppss.. I have not been updating about the movies that I had watched in these couple of weeks and the past 2 days.. ... so decided to post everything one shot...

All the movies were pretty good, especially IP Man 2, Shrek Forever After, Prince Of Persia and The Karate Kid.

Shrek Forever After made me teared twice.. silly me watch cartoon also so emotional... but it was a good and meaningful movie...out of so many sequels, think the final chapter of Shrek is the best I find..

IP Man 2 also very nice, as good as Part 1, Donnie Yen so charming as usual..( saw shots of an upcoming IP Man movie but not starring Donnie Yen... I wonder if my dear and me will go and watch..the cast not really fantastic)

Yesterday watched The Karate Kid and it was good.. It was towards the end that I realise that Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) was actually the son of Will Smith.. hey this boy is very talented and can act surprising well... I actually teared 2-3 times in this movie..Maybe I was too focus in the story.. Jaden Smith is the 2nd child main actor/actress (for movie) that made me tear while watching them act... ( The first was Linsay Lohan in the movie - The Parent Trap (1998) in which she played a twin trying to bring their divorced parents together.) By the way, The Karate Kid is quite slow paced (more than 2 hours+ movie), but not to the extend that made me sleep.. the story build up well plus can see beautiful sceneries of China..Think children will learn about values and the never give up attitude.. Thumb up for this movie, definitely worth the weekend price ticket!

Just a few hours ago, I watched The A-Team at GV Max, its a action packed movie.. but it did not leave me an impression.. although it is quite exciting.. some how I do not really like this movie..

Clash Of The Titans

I was a bit disappointed watching Clash Of The Titans.. The storyline is a bit like Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief...involving the gods like Zeus, Hades, Perseus, Medusa..just that this story Perseus went in search of Medusa instead of the lightning bolt.. ( Why all the demons can only be killed by looking at Medusa's eyes, and the hero always need to chop off the head of Medusa, through the reflection of shiny surface, in order to kill the demons?) Of course, in the end, the demons turned into stones ! They are really quite similar in term of the plot and the characters involved in the stories.

Overall still not too bad, I did not fall asleep although the beginning was quite boring...

It should be a blockbuster but it did not wow me.. maybe because I had watched Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief before, so do not find it that interesting...Will give it a 6 out of 10.

When In Rome

It has been quite some time since I last watched a movie because my dear went overseas for 1 month+. and he is finally back. My last 2 movies we watched were Percy Jackson & The Lightning Thief and Jackie Chan's Big Soldier.

Anyway, When In Rome is a pretty nice movie ( comedy).. Watch how an ambitious New Yorker (Kristen Bell) travelled to Rome to attend her sister's wedding..where she picked 5 coins from the foundation of love. And then she attracted an assortment of weird suitors from different walks of life - a sausage merchant, a magician, an artist and a model.. But when the guy she loved (Josh Duhamel) tried to win her heart, she wondered if his love is the real thing or was it an illusion.. ( watch out for the owner of the 5th coin and the part where the 4 suitors sent the lead actress to the museum was funny.) Today I saw a similar car  (also in yellow) on the road, and it was super cute!)

In real life, will there be a foundation of love which we can throw coins into? Think something similar to wishing well... anyway, When In Rome is worth watching! 7.8 out of 10.

14 Blades

30 Jan 2010 - GV Marina Square, 11.40pm

After shopping at John Little ( this is my 2nd visit to JL in this week, 20% storewide + $5 off every $30 spent is quite worth that I utilised 4 of the $5 off vouchers) , we went to watch the preview of 14 Blades ( also known as jinyiwei - an elite force of assassins recruited from street orphans) featuring Donnie Yen, Wu Zhun, ZhaoWei, Qi Yuwu.. Think we watched this because of Donnie Yen ( Chinese movies featuring action heroes like Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen we will go and watch) ...

Yes, the handsome Wu Zhun also appeared in this movie.... think he appeared in more scenes than Qi Yuwu... But in the end, Wu Zhun sacrified and died in order to save Zhao Wei.. Its a pity that Zhao Wei cannot be with her beau in this movie, same as the ending in Mulan...

I think I would prefer this movie to have a happy ending..

7 out of 10 for me.

The Spy Next Door

17th Jan 2009, GV Tampines Mall

Watched The Spy Next Door last week, and I find it quite an entertaining movie. The plot is nothing fantastic, but maybe I was too engrossed, I teared towards the end of the movie when the 3 kids finally accepted Jackie Chan and told their mother that she can never find another man as good as him. I thought Jackie Chan, Amber Valletta and the 3 kids acted pretty well.. The NGs also very funny..A pretty touching comedy!

7.8 out of 10.

Did You Hear About The Morgans?

9th Jan 2009 - Sat 11.30pm Cathay Downtown East

At first Dear had wanted to watch Avatar 3D ( again, but this time in 3D) but it was sold out then he suggested The Vampire's Assistant or the Fourth Kind, but in the end, we watched Did You Hear About The Morgans? ( Since I wanted to watch!! Oppss) At least I know it will be a light hearted movie, without any frightening scenes! *.*

Basically its about a couple, ( Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant), think their marriage was not working out but one day, after their dinner.. they witnessed a murder.. and in order to protect them, the police sent both of them to a rural town called Wyoming..then its when they realised they still love each other... nothing fantastic about the plot though..its just a pretty average movie to me.. 6 out of 10!

Waiting for The Tooth Fairy and The Spy Next Door ..The preview shots look quite nice!

Alvin and the Chipmunks 2

27 Dec 2009, GV Tampines Mall

Alvin and the Chipmunks were still as cute as they were in part 1... Just that part 2, it included 3 more chipmunks called The Chipettes.. There was a singing competition in which the winner will help the school to win $25,000 for the school ( The Chipettes were supposed to represent the school, after Alvin failed to turned up for the in-school competition).. It was funny to see that even the principal adored Alvin and The Chipmunks that she got a tattoo of them.. LOL..

In the end, the 6 of them performed together.. it was quite touching that they chose the song.."we are family" ( dont know the exact name, something like this) ..

Although touched, it did not make me tears..

Nothing really fantastic about this movie, I find part 1 may be slightly better.. Nonetheless it was still pretty entertaining to watch those cute cute chipmunks and chipettes.. 7.5 out of 10.

Sherlock Holmes

25 Dec 2009, GV Marina Square

watched this movie on Christmas Day.. I did not really enjoyed this movie as I find it quite cheam (alot of conversations), but still can make some sense out of the whole 2 hours ( some movies after finished watching, I still dont know what it was showing)

Sherlock Holmes was the smart one who like challenges and solves mysteries.. His partner ( Jude Law) was a handsome young chap who acted as a doctor.. Despite Holmes creating problems, he still help him as much as he could..At first I thought there will be some black magic involved, but the ending was an unexpected twist .. Oh well, I guess there will still be part 2 to Sherlock Holmes since there was still the mystery man in the carriage.. He was said to be as smart as Sherlock Holmes.

7.4 out of 10.

I still prefer to watch Robert Downey Jr starring as Iron Man..

Bodyguards & Assassins

23 Dec 2009, GV Vivocity

I was actually quite looking forward to this movie as the preview shots seem quite exciting.. However, I did fall asleep half way for about 5minutes.. ( gosh, the beginning was abit slow for me... ) but later I managed to stay awake for the rest of the show.. Just to give Mr Sun 1 hour to talk to other 13 states representatives, many brave people were sacrified.. There was also a group who strongly opposed to Mr.Sun's action and tried to sabotage the whole plan ..insisted in plotting against Mr.Sun.. and even at the brim of death, still wanted to kill him..The part where Leon Lai fought against so many fighters was quite funny, he really very persistance and tried his very best to prevent any of them to go up Mr.Sun's mother house. Even when he was stabbed by so many swords, still alive fighting...

This is more of a story movie, not much fighting scenes though...

Will give it 7.5 out of 10.

Avatar

18th Dec (Fri) - GV Max, 9pm

For 2.5hours, I felt I was transported into another world - A Spectacular world beyond imagination where the scenic views on Pandora were breathtaking! This movie was awesome with superb graphics and animation, it left me wondering what were the real things/people vs those produced by graphics!! How did they produce such a brilliant movie?

I read that the production cost of this movie was around $237 million and promotion fee another $150 million (more info)..Director James Cameron had visualised this movie 15 years ago when technology was not so advanced.. and Avatar took around 4 years to produce.. But I must say its really a spectacular freaking good movie .. I would say out of so many movies I have watched this year, Avatar is the BEST! I would give it a 9.5 out of 10. (one of the better movies I have watched in so many years!)

I am sure Avatar will be winning some awards soon...

Certainly worth every penny! Go watch it if you have not, and be mesmerized by the outstanding visual effects/graphics!

A Perfect Getaway

Friday night, dear went online to book tickets for A Perfect Getaway At The Cathay At Handy Road..The show started at 10.30pm, and 10.40pm we were still trying to find parking lot! Knowing that Cathay has very little commercials, I tried to request to change to the next time slot for the same movie.. But it was a pleasant surprise that at 10.45pm, 15mins after the show started, I was able to change to the next timing at 11.35pm.. That was kind of flexible for Cathay to do so... I was not pinning much hope though..

Anyway, the show was quite crappy... 6 people on the Honolulu island and there were 2 murderers.. The movie was not as thrilling as the preview shots... but I do find there were nice scenery.. the green and the waters.. that was the only console.. Plot wise, really abit nonsense... Would only give 4 out of 10.

By the way, we paid $21 including $1 for online booking, and it was totally not worth the price!!!

Mulan

Watched Mulan at Cineleisure yesterday 2am.. Initially went down to Lido but surprisingly, only left with first 2 rows.. so walked down to Cineleisure and bought a pair of tickets for the 2am show...

Overall I find this movie not bad... but how come Wen Tai was a prince and he became a general in the war?? haha, maybe the emperor wanted to train him to be stronger... 12 years, Mulan and Wen Tai were together... of course, they fell in love with each other.. its quite a pity that they were unable to be together because Wen Tai got a heavier responsibility to marry the Rouran princess...

7 out of 10. ( Although there were a few touching scenes, they did not touch me to the extend that made me tear... )

Case 39

Watched this over the weekend at Downtown East.. It was quite a nice movie although there is like spirit/demon involved. A thriller I should say. This plot remind me of The Orphan in which the innocent young girl turned out to be someone much older.. but in Case 39, the girl is a demon in disguise.. Oh gosh, in the beginning, I felt for this innocent looking girl when her parents tried to kill her.. and I thought her parents were the devils..

There was a twist to the story.. quite an exciting show I should say.. do expect a few scares here and there...

7.8 out of 10.

2012

Watched 2012 at GV Max on 22 Nov 2009. It was a pretty impressive movie with great graphics. It was quite sad to see the whole world destoyed because of natural forces. In the end only a handful of people survived... This movie is certainly worth the weekend price, I will give it a 8.5 out of 10. Think the next blockbusters would be Avatar ( look impressive too!)

Raging Phoenix

Watched Raging Phoenix at Downtown East last week. Although it should be an action movie, I find it more of a comedy.. because they dance when they fight... pretty funny to watch.. have to be very pain in order to master the skills of Meyraiyuth. Will give it a 6.8 out of 10.

Jennifer's Body

1st Nov 2009 - Just when I thought I could escape watching Jennifer's Body since I chose Julie & Julia the previous day, I was wrong.. haha.. In the end, I still company dear to watch Jennifer's Body.. Ok, I actually watched the sneak shots of this so I was thinking still can see the sexy Megan Fox... Well, it was not very gross, not those chop head, or stab here and there scenes.. I still can take the bloody scenes, I find that this is sometimes like a sexy horror movie, which was not the scary type...

Jennifer and Needy were best friends since young. But 1 day Jennifer was being sacrificed to some witchcraft by a boyband, but ended up she became possessed then she started to go round eating the boys up, so that she can regain her beauty, flawless skin and grossy hair..

This is just a so-so movie, around 6.5 out of 10 rating... But I would prefer Jennifer's Body to Halloween 2 though. ('',) because Halloween 2 dont know what it was talking about and it was too gross in the front part.
